RANT ALERT - Is blogging turning into a numbers game ?

Hi girlies, Ok usually I'm not one to rant.. well online that is! But recently all I have been getting is comments like "follow me and I'll follow back", "would you like to follow each other?". These comments are REALLY annoying!!!

Sure, it's lovely to log onto your blog and realise you've got 10 or even one new follower, I get excited as the next person! But for someone to show interest in your blog but to refuse to follow it unless you "follow back" is really aggravating!

Blogging for me, gives me confidence, allows me to gain advice and most of all friends. So I honestly feel if blogging is simply down to getting thousands of followers and recieving freebies you are in the wrong frame of mind!
I am all for finding new blogs and by all means leave your blog address below a comment but please don't refuse to follow me unless I follow you.
*sourced from Google.

Basically the main purpose of this post is to see if other bloggers have been recieving these comments like I have lately and to let other bloggers know that these sort of comments are NOT welcome on my blog! (in the nicest possible way!haha)

Ok rant over!!!
Stay tuned for a little OOTD and yet another haul.

Does this annoy you as much as it annoys me?
Do you allow such comments on your blog?

Until next time girlies.. LolaRose xx

  1. I agree, I get them alot too... it makes me feel like the only reason they bothered to comment was to make me look at their blog. Its irritating because they leave a comment telling you to follow them, but they dont even follow you!!

    1. Exactly maybe if they followed you first and asked you to check out their blog that they would like you to follow them it would be different! It's so rude!!

Thanks for your comment lovely :)

  2. I hate these comments too. I do want more followers but I only want them to follow if they're actually interested in reading it - not just for the sake of it!

  3. Most comments nowadays end with a 'follow me back', some only say that! I think it's really cheeky but never know how to say please don't ask that :/ I'm all for leaving your URL after a comment but blogging shouldn't be about the numbers.

    Good rant! :)

    1. I've just decided the best approach is to reply thanks for your comment but those sort of comments aren't welcome on my blog! It's hard not ot sound rude yet get your point across!!

      Thanks Charlee :)

  4. i couldnt agree more, it is much satisfying knowing someone is following your blog because they are genuinely interested... not because you have begged them too * scratches eyes out* haha xx

  5. Those comments really annoy me! Especially when they don't even write anything in relation to your post, as they probably haven't even read a word of it! x

  7. I agree so much - the annoying thing is that these people probably wont read your post! It annoys me when they just comment with 'nice' or 'amazing' and its obvious they havent read a single word youve written. And when they dare to say 'follow me ill follow you back' at the end of it - i dont reply, i dont click the link and i will never in a million years follow them :) i get quite a few but it just makes me appreciate the lovely followers i do have - i hardly ever look at how many followers somebody has. If i like the blog, ill follow it regardless of if it's a 'big' blog or not :)

    great post beat xx

    1. Beth I couldn't have put it any better myself. Whats to say someone with 50followers has been blogging for one day or one year you can't base whether you follow a blog based on its numbers!
Thanks for you brilliant comment my love:)

  8. I completely agree! I sometimes put 'I'd love to hear your feedback on my blog' or leave my link after my comment, but by no means would I ever have the nerve to write 'follow me and I will follow back'.
Agree with something someone else commented too, I cant stand when people comment with 'mazing' very generic comments that you know they haven't actually read and just looked at the pictures - which is fine, but then they write 'follow i'll follow you back' you just know they're only commenting to gain you as a follower. I find it sad as I feel they don't really want to read my blog.
Good on you for writing this post!

  9. I totally agree. I got my most recent one of these yesterday, and it aggravated me so much. It would take less effort to just click follow if you truly liked my blog. Then you could tell me you did and invite me to look at yours. This "follow me and THEN I'll follow you" crap burns me up. Like we have nothing better to do than play this game with them! Ugh! Ok, now my rant is over. Lol :)

  10. I completely agree with you! I always get these comments and it's soo annoying! If someone is interested in my blog then they would follow me weather or not i followed them, i always check my new followers blogs out anyway and will follow if i like them.

  11. Totally agree, it's annoying when you get a comment and you think it'll be someone commenting on your post because they enjoyed reading it but really it's just someone going ''hey! i'm a new follower, follow me back?'' :S it's annoying for sure!

On another note, i've tagged you in my latest post, feel free to do the tag if you want to :) (http://www.thebeautybelle.co.uk/2012/10/i-fallautumn-tag.html) I was going to tweet you about it but couldn't find your twitter address? :)
    Hope you're well lovely!

  12. omg Lola, you are so right it's sooo annoying. i think it's plain rude to ask someone to follow you without even saying anything about your post. i got a comment the other day saying 'i'm looking for mutual followers' like how rude? of course i comment on other blogs to gain followers but i like to let them choose whether they want to follow me or not. i sometimes tell them 'i've a new post up, if you're interested' but i don't just go onto someones blog and tell them i'll follow you if you follow me. grrr, rant over!!

  13. I agree with everything- I've only been blogging a short time and already am disillusioned by all the free/PR supplied blogs. I recieved one free item- but it was a contest on twitter. And if I see one more, "would you like to follow me dear?".... Blah!
